Description

This Overnight Ham and Swiss Cheese Strata is a savory, make-ahead breakfast casserole perfect for holidays, brunches, or lazy weekend mornings.


Ingredients

  • 6 cups cubed sourdough bread
  • 2 cups diced cooked ham
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Butter for greasing the dish

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Layer half the bread, then half the ham, and half the cheese. Repeat layers.
  3. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, mustard, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour mixture evenly over the layered ingredients.
  5. Press down lightly to ensure everything is soaked. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F. Uncover strata and let sit at room temp for 30 mins.
  7. Bake for 45–55 minutes until golden and center is set.
  8. Cool slightly before slicing and serving.
