Description

Create fun and spooky Monster Fruit Kabobs for a healthy and exciting party treat. These colorful skewers feature melon monster heads with candy eyes and strawberry tongues, combined with a variety of fresh fruits. They are easy to assemble, visually appealing, and a hit with kids.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 large Cantaloupe Melon
  • 1/2 small Honeydew Melon
  • 1 pint fresh Strawberries
  • 2 cups Green Grapes
  • 2 cups Red or Black Grapes
  • 3 large Kiwis
  • 1620 Candy Eyeballs
  • 1620 Wooden or Bamboo Skewers (approx. 810 inches long)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workstation and wash all fruit thoroughly. Pat dry with paper towels.
  2. Cut melons in half, scoop out seeds. Use a melon baller to scoop 8-10 balls from each melon for monster heads.
  3. Slice off the tops of strawberries and cut thinly to create tongues. Make a small slit in each melon ball for the mouth and insert a strawberry slice. Attach two candy eyeballs to each melon ball using a dab of water or honey. Set aside.
  4. Peel and slice kiwis into 1/2-inch rounds. Hull remaining strawberries. Ensure grapes are washed and removed from stems.
  5. Assemble the Monster Fruit Kabobs: Thread a green grape onto a skewer, followed by a kiwi slice, a red/black grape, a strawberry, another green grape, and finally, gently place a monster head on top.
  6. Repeat the assembly process, varying the fruit order and melon head types. Arrange the finished Monster Fruit Kabobs on a platter or in a stand.

Notes

  • For younger children, use blunted lollipop sticks or skewers with flat ends for safety.
  • Prevent browning of fruits like apples or bananas by tossing them with lemon or pineapple juice.
  • Cookie cutters can be used on melon or kiwi slices for fun shapes.
  • Fruit can be washed and chopped up to 24 hours in advance and stored in airtight containers.
  • Alternative eyes can be made with mini chocolate chips, blueberries, or black grapes secured with cream cheese or honey.
  • Leftover fruit scraps can be used for fruit salad or smoothies.
  • Ensure fruit pieces are threaded through the center for stability.
  • For a grown-up version, add fresh mint leaves, feta cheese, and a balsamic glaze.
