Description

Create fun and delicious snake breadsticks that are perfect for parties and kids. This recipe makes irresistible, snake-shaped breadsticks that are easy to bake and fun to eat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for greasing
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  7. Punch down the risen dough. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.
  8. Divide the dough into equal portions. Roll each portion into a long rope, about 1/2 inch thick.
  9. Shape each rope into a snake, coiling it into a spiral. You can make them as long or as short as you like for your fun breadsticks.
  10. Place the shaped snake breadsticks on the prepared baking sheet.
  11. Brush the tops with the beaten egg wash. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or poppy seeds if desired.
  12. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  13. Serve your irresistible snake breadsticks warm.

Notes

  • For cheesy snake breadsticks, add 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese to the dough.
  • You can make different sizes of snake breadsticks for variety.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce like marinara or garlic butter.
